Visit Japan Web is the Digital Agency’s official portal for completing immigration, customs, and eligible tax-free shopping procedures before or during entry to Japan. The service is free; use the Digital Agency domain directly and avoid third-party sites that charge to create QR codes.
Key features
- Pre-arrival registration: Enter passport, flight, and accommodation details before departure so the entry/return procedure page is ready on arrival.
- Unified QR workflow: Visit Japan Web now displays one 2D code for immigration clearance and customs declaration. Show it at the immigration counter and at the customs electronic declaration terminal or inspection table.
- Tax-free shopping: The tax-free QR workflow is separate from arrival processing and is only relevant for eligible foreign visitors. Residents entering with a status of residence should not treat it as a replacement for passport or residence-status documents.
- Household management: Guardians can manage minor dependents from a single account, streamlining family submissions.
Operational notes
- Update any change in flight or accommodation before departure; edits after landing may slow the counter process.
- When entering Japan on a status of residence, present the Visit Japan Web QR and carry the Certificate of Eligibility, passport, visa, and any sponsor documents requested for your status. The portal does not replace immigration paperwork.
- Save the official login URL and a screenshot of the QR code before boarding. Japan Customs warned in 2026 that fake and paid Visit Japan Web assistance sites were circulating overseas.
- After receiving a residence card, consider registering separately for the automated gates for future re-entry.
